Palm Springs-based Environmental Service Professionals Inc. has garnered $150 million to launch a national home-inspection program that company officials say will eventually employ 60,000 veterans across the nation.

The so-called million-dollar homes on Tracy Avenue just got more expensive. About six years ago, when Kansas Citys housing agency was billed more than $1 million to rehabilitate two inner-city homes, the excessive spending set off a furor that led to a federal-court takeover of the citys housing program.
